Hope You Can See

Every meal shared, every conversation, every volunteer hour, every partnership, and every life touched tells part of the story. Behind every number is a person. Behind every person is hope.

Understanding the Need.

Across Santa Barbara County, thousands of neighbors are navigating homelessness, housing instability, food insecurity, and barriers that make stability harder to reach. The 2025 Point-in-Time Count identified 2,455 people experiencing homelessness countywide - a 15% increase from 2024.

Every statistic represents a neighbor, a family, or an individual whose story matters. At the H.U.B., we believe that responding to these challenges begins with dignity, relationships, and hope.

Housing Instability

Vehicular Homelessness

Food insecurity

Homelessness is not one experience. People are living in shelters, on the street, in vehicles, and in other places never designed to be home.
The 2025 Point-in-Time Count found that 61% of people experiencing homelessness in Santa Barbara County were unsheltered, while 39% were sheltered.
For many working adults, seniors, and families, a vehicle has become the last barrier between housing instability and living on the street.
The 2026 Santa Barbara County Vehicular Homelessness Study found that 55.4% of surveyed households relied primarily on employment income, while rising housing costs, rent increases, job loss, and reduced income were among the leading reasons people began living in their vehicles.
The 2025 Lompoc Valley Needs Assessment found that 23% of adults in Lompoc Valley - and 26% in the City of Lompoc - experience food insecurity, nearly double the countywide rate. Community members shared that rising housing, transportation, and healthcare costs often force families to make impossible choices between paying bills and buying healthy food. That's why the H.U.B. provides more than meals - we create a place where people find nourishment, dignity, and hope.

Connection & BElonging Matters

Meeting practical needs is only the beginning. People also need safe, welcoming places where trust can grow, relationships can develop, and the next step becomes possible.
At the H.U.B., we believe hope grows through community - and that no one should have to face life's challenges alone.

Faith is offered as care and invitation - never as a condition for receiving services.

These numbers continue to grow because hope is being practiced every week - through meals, relationships, resources, volunteers, and a community choosing to walk together.

Every statistic represents a life.

Every Number Has a Name

Statistics help us understand the scale of the work. Stories remind us why it matters. Every meal represents a conversation. Every shower restores dignity. Every volunteer hour reflects compassion. Every partnership strengthens our community.

Finding Belonging

Being Present Is Enough

No One Should Feel Invisible

Before coming to the H.U.B., one guest described facing "everything." Today they speak about finding a place where they belong and knowing they no longer have to face life's challenges alone.
One volunteer discovered they didn't need extraordinary talents to make a difference. Simply listening, caring, and being themselves became one of the greatest gifts they could offer.
A community partner who once experienced homelessness now helps others find hope by making sure every person feels seen, valued, and connected.

Every number begins with someone’s story.

How Hope Happens

Lasting change rarely happens in one moment. It grows through relationships
practical support, and people choosing to walk together.

Every person is greeted with dignity and compassion.

relationship

Trust begins through genuine conversations and consistent care.

support

Immediate needs are met while barriers are addressed.

next step

Impact is measured in numbers, but experienced by people.

Measuring What Matters.

We believe the quality of our work matters just as much as the quantity. That's why we regularly measure participant experiences and use what we learn to improve the way we serve.

What we count matters because people matter.

Hope Is a Community Effort

No one organization can meet every need. Lasting change happens when churches, nonprofits, healthcare providers, businesses, public agencies, foundations, volunteers, and neighbors work together for the good of our community.

The numbers measure the work. The people reveal its meaning.
